A Contest For Baggage

Alright, so here’s the deal. You want a contest to figure out who gets the last three copies of Do Not Leave Baggage All the Way? Well… you’ve got that contest! If you want to sign up go here:

When you sign up, you’ll get a assigned a personal URL that has the new video and a download for “The Fade to Black” on it, along with lots of sharing options. This is an example of one such page: http://songs.secretdakotaring.com/song/fadetoblack/b4e43a36ec

Whenever you get someone to go to your page, and listen to the song, or download it, or share with their friends, or pre-order the CD, or signup for the mailing list, etc etc etc, you’ll get points for the contest. Basically, everything on your page is tracked. I haven’t figured out the exact point system yet but obviously some things (pre-ordering the CD) are worth more than others (listening to the song).

By the way, as Rosa so snarkily put it on the comments “a popularity contest? lol, I’m so NOT going to win this”, I’d like to counter that by saying that this precisely the opposite. You won’t win if you just get all your friends to go to your page; chances are you’ve already done that because the song is so totally fuckin’ awesome and you just needed to show them the video the day it came out. BUT, if you’re creative and get some way to get a lot of traffic to your page, you’ve got a much better chance.

Also, I’m going to add a subjective element so that any super-creative uses of your URL will not go unnoticed. For example, if you write your URL in Sharpie on your forehead and walk around with it for weeks, that would be a) impressive because of the number of characters involved; and b) disturbingly dedicated. Please don’t do this… no CD is worth this.

Now, I know this is a shameless ploy to get you to promote this song, so I’m going to throw in some special prizes for the winners, like some sweet piece of personal property, or have Travis make you the tightest mix you’ve ever heard. The winners will also get: the Baggage copy, obviously; Cantarell; your choice of two t-shirt designs; various Serious Business Records stuff. Contestants that don’t win will also get some trinkets like buttons and stickers and stuff. Just make sure you use a valid email when you sign up.

The contest period will be from Thursday, October 23, 2008 12:00 AM PDT to Thursday, October 30, 2008 12:00 AM PDT. Any activity on your page during that period will count. So go sign up, scheme some shit up, and then on Thursday, go crazy.

Hi again, okay, so I’m not going to make a snarky remark here cause this is serious business (pun intented).

I just sent an email to contest@secretdakotaring.com and the said email was automatically returned as “Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently” and I was told the following, “Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain.”

In the email I was asking for express permission to use The Fade to Black as background music for a homemade youtube video. Given you told us to, “scheme some shit up, and then on Thursday, go crazy” I’m sort of assuming you tacitly gave us permission to use the song in order to promote Cantarell and this site. Still, I wanted to make sure (I wouldn’t want to step on sensibilities and get you mad and stuff yet again lol)… so, will it be okay if we use the song as background music for a homemade video? (I promise to keep it pg). cheers
